Default YEAA!!! SES light poped on!

OK..please read all before answering.

wo0t for me, first run in with the ses since i bought the CAR (1998 ls1 Formula/WS6 Firebird)

heres What took place. Was driving around like usal but this trip i was gasing the car pretty hard here and there, not to much though.

then i was takeing a left turn once i got the car straight i gased it...at about 4400 rpm the SES light comes on

Car stinks as allways does, Got to a stop light, Car idled just Fine, ran just fine, and dident have any realy distictive odors.

Got home poped the hood, no leaky fluids, Again no new odors, motor was idleing smoth (as smooth as it can with it's cam)

So i pulled the NEG battery Terminal to Re-set the light (is that how to do it on a ls1?)

Anyway....I just changed the oil, about 1000-1500 miles ago (first time i changed the oil since buying the car) And i dident Re-set the Computer, i only say this cause a couple people said re-set the COMP before the "oil change light" or re-set after you change the oil to keep it from coming on. now im new to this car is the SES light the "oil change light"? And is the light on becuse i never re-set the comp after my oil and only happend to come on under hard accel by coincedence?

Spelling sucked!

thanks for the help

There are hundreds of possible codes and no way to guess untill you get it scanned. Take it to autozone, they'll scan the codes for free. the "car smells" does leave me to belive its fueling or emissions related. Also, 98's don't have change oil lights, it would have nothing to do with that.

Get the code checked. It can't fix itself.

Pul the Neg wire, turn the key to the on position for about a min, back off, then conected the battery. That should reset it.

i dont think it works that way with newer cars fwiw...i always just reset mine using autotap or hptuners...though most of mine are turned off now

Was the gas cap tightened? Also, I think they automatically turn on at 36,000 in some OBDII cars. Either way it will need to be checked and reset.

ive had that happen with a couple of my cars...the gas cap thing...as far as the 36k mile thing i severly doubt it...somebody wouldve been sued by now over that.

i think it normally takes about 50 miles for all codes to re-appear... It happened with my 96 cobra, check engine light came on and i reset it, then i took it to get it emission tested and they said the pcm hasnt reset yet and then my dad (mechanic) said normally it has to be about 50 miles before most codes re-appear. So that is just something to consider... go drive 50 or so more miles and see how it is then and if no codes... dont worry til it comes back. goodluck!

could be the cats going out, or the O2 sensors.
like said before, get the codes scaned, autozone dose it for free.
hope that helps.
