Default Iat trick, PROBLEM!!!

Awhile back I posted about how to back down timing with the resistor, and I did it.. I bought a 1000ohm resistor, I checked and it saw 122 degrees at the iat and I even thought it felt different. I was on the highway I put it in third and floored it, it felt good went to 4th it went in then 2 seconds later I heard a loud booom, I put in the clutch and put it in nuetral coasted and then it died....Wierd Well I got it stopped started it again and it started but had a code I checked the code and it was a CKP sensor signal performance highe or something like that well it stubbled all the way home I parked it, and the next mourning I started it and it ran fin, so I went to the track everything was going good, first run I launched hit second and it died just like on the highway but it didnt throw a code...I replaced the crank sensor three weeks ago.. any input would be great..=)

I'm assuming you did the crank relearn, but that's what it sounds like to me. Find someone with EFIlive and try that. I very seriously doubt the IAT trick caused this problem.

I don't think its related to the IAT...

FYI.. that "tricker" will pull about 3 degrees of timing at that temp. The "tricker" is when you use a resister that commands a really low IAT temp. The PCM will pull timing as the intake air temps increase to help prevent detonation.

I found out yesterday that is not the Iat The jsut shuts of a WOT but usually only from a stop...car keeps just shutting down under hard accel only??????yes I think I did the crank relearn, is that just reseting the PCM then yes , like I said before the will shut off then start right back up and no codes present..??????

No, crank relearn is generally accomplished via a Tech 2 ... HP Tuners and EFI Live also provide this ability ...

Not sure if this is your problem though... When I had my 382 built I'm not sure if a crank relearn was done or not... but didn't have a prob... Couldn't hurt to try though

crank relearn not done, wont hurt performance or do what he is saying. it is just used for missfire detection. and wont kill performance, it just wont be able to detect when missfires occur, and wont be able to pinpoint which cyl is not firing correctly..
Also when you are playing with sensors, its always good to see what else you are playing with, just becuase it pulls 3 degrees of timing .. it MAY also be screwing with a bunch of fueling tables... Vehicle dependant of coarse. Have you tried pulling out the resister and seeing if the problem goes away?

do you have any way of logging what the car's doing ? Would be interested in O2 sensors (Front), Timing Advance, Knock Retard, MAP, RPM, Speed, TPS

Not a very good accurate log, its on a genysis scanner. engine just totally shuts down for about 5 seconds then goes back to normal..Plus car runs fine as long as I dont romp on it...??

You need to do a crank relearn...

I'm not to familier with how to use the TT for CRL but yes it will do it for you. I use HPT for the crank relearn. I see you are in Houston what part of town?
