Default Getting code p1626.....

My 00 Silverado 5.3 has the security light periodically come on and when I pulled a code it gave p1626 which I did search for and found it's:

P1626 - Theft Deterrent Fuel Enable Signal Not Received

but what causes this, and is there anything I can do to fix it other than take it i=to a dealer

Thanks

Others have had this, seems the problem is generally:
1. The chip (resistor) in the key is messed up (if it's PASS KEY 2) ... try a spare key
2. The Gauge Cluster fuse is blown

There are some other posts about it in the above link

Thanks Horist, It's a Pass Lock system since there is no visible resister in the key itself. Guess That kinda kills the easy "try a new key" cure now I figured it's gonna be something expensive as it usually is when I have a problem.
