How Do You Log at the Track?
Well, it's about that time for the track to open up here...
Does anyone have a good suggestion(s) for how to datalog during their passes and not get busted?

I use EFILIVE FLASHSCAN to tune the car and the added benifit is you can use the interface for logging without the laptop connected - can get a lot of passes on it before I need to download them to the laptop , can also log a external wideband as well.
I used to use HP TUNERS and datalog with the laptop in the car - then I got busted by the cops- never again cost me $200 in fines.
I bought EFILIVE and not only is the scanner way better but I also like the tuning stuff better - looks more windows based

I start the logging before I go up to the staging lanes, close the laptop lid (this works on the street too and will let you avoid any fines from the popo) , secure the laptop, and I'm done... when back in the pits I save the log, review it, make any tuning changes that are necessary and go again. (I use HP Tuners)
So long as the laptop is secure (any device you have in your car should be secure... a hard launch and things will fly everywhere) and the screen is closed I believe it's fine

Most likely for having an open display in the driver's vision... it's illegal to have a laptop open, DVD movie playing etc... if it's in view of the driver ... if you close the laptop display then you're set... This is what I do often... log a little, pull into a gas station , make some changes, then start logging again ... just gotta keep that display closed

Mine just sits in the passanger seat at the track. I have tinted windows so perhaps they never noticed.
Several times i've tuned a car from the passanger seat with it completly visiable to the cop in the lane next to me. I don't think they care, its the passanger operating it.

Maybe that's why the cop sitting next to me at a light one night last fall was giving me a funny look. I had no idea that he could ticket me for it. Guess I'll have to be more careful.

Hi Folks
I would find it hard to believe that having a Laptop sitting on the passenger seat is against the law - opened or closed in any state. It is not blocking the vision of the driver, it maybe distracting but so are cell phones. Some states have hands free laws for cell phones but I would argue that laptop is like a hands free phone and only collect data which I was not watching it.
