Default SES light on. code P0440 EVAP emiss. cont. malfunction?

Well im not entirely sure if this is the right forum but i am new here so figured i would post my problem in here.

My car is a 2002 T/A a4 bone stock. The SES light came on this afternoon, so i took it to autozone and they scanned it and it came up P0440- EVAP emission control system malfunction. Can anyone tell me what it probably is or might be? The car still runs and drives perfect. Is it ok to drive until next week when i get paid to get it checked out by a pro?

Ive only had this car 3 days, and this light is a bit of a downer.

Basically there is a small leak somewhere from the gas tank to the engine, it wont affect performance but if you have EMI testing in your area you will fail the test because of it,there are a couple of solinoids in the system and 1 or more might need to be replaced.

Also, don't fill up with the engine running or overfill the tank.

I have seen a couple of these at work in the last couple of days. It could be solenoids sticking or switching slow. More than likely it is either a loose gas cap or a vacuum line on the intake came off.
Have you done any work to the car lately?

No i havent done anything to it, i've only had it for a total of 4 days now. I took it a friend w/ a actron scan tool and he reset the light for me, and it hasnt come back yet.

I had no clue these cars could be so touchy about gas caps and over filling.

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

most obdII cars will illuminate that light with loose gas cap.
as far as over filling. there is a vent line from the tank that could possibly fill and spill from, but not extremely likely.
