Default RPM Gauge off

I don't know if this is the right section but anyways. What could be throwing my rpm gauge off. It is about 2-300 rpm to hight. I assume that their is a sensor on the crank that could do this but what else could.

Thanks

well... assuming the truck tachis like the F-Body tach... the stock tach is a bit lazy... an aftermarket tach will read the same data the stock tach uses, but is faster updating

The feed coming from the PCM is plenty fast but the stock tachometer just doesn't update fast enough
