Default Knock Retard in Open Loop

At open loop I get knock retard if the O2 sensors continue reading (at 1,000+). If the O2 sensors stop reading (blank field) then I do not get knock retard.

Anybody any idea why?

1000+ on narrowband your probably over fueling, do you have a wideband 02?
Have you tried pulling timing

No wideband I'm afraid.

Before pulling timing (or anything else) I'm trying to figure out why sometimes the O2 sensors are reading in open loop and at other times they are not. Is there some other factor that's causing the inconsistency?

The fuel trims are positive before it goes into open loop, so lean.
