Default Can you tune around unbalanced banks (i.e., one leaner than the other)?

Prior to my cam and intake install my Bank 1 was approximately 0.890 and Bank 2 was approximately 0.850 at WOT. I could not find any exhaust leaks. Also, I had my injectors checked and they were fine. I changed both front O2s and within the first five minutes boths banks were identical. However, after that they started to deviate and ultimately resulted in an unbalanced condition (as indicated above). Right now I have no idea what is causing this problem.

After the cam and intake install (without tuning) my Bank 1 was approximately 0.780 and Bank 2 was approximately 0.720 at WOT.

I've got two questions:
  1. Can a dynotuner tune around the unbalanced banks?
  2. Why is the car running so lean? Do I need to upgrade my fuel pump?

Thanks,

Jim

Unbalanced voltage more likely means unbalanced temperature
than unbalanced mixture.

I've noticed this on my car as well.. My 02's read about 930 one bank 1 and 950 on bank 2 under WOT ever since my longtube header install.

They are the stock 02's so I think perhaps replacing them with some rear vette 02's might help them get up to temp better and thus read more accurately for me.

I always wondered about the discrepancy...

So, are you saying that I should be able to tune the car (on a wideband) even with the unbalanced O2 readings? Also, if it is an unbalanced temperature condition, do you have any suggestions for trouble shooting?

Thanks,

Jim

I dont think your situation is as unusual as you think. When not at Stoich 14.7 the sensors arent even accurate anyway, add to that one header placing the O2 better in the stream maybe, the sensor itself and the list goes on. Mine are around 20off also, and have been even with stock exhaust. The drvr side being lower than the pass I added the wb on the drvr side, so if in fact it is leaner, better to be richer after tuning on the pass side then leaner on drvr side. Just .02 for ya.

You are never going to get both banks even. What you have is a production car. A fast production car, but still a production car. Ideally you would want a wide-band O2 sensor evenly placed in each primary tube on a set of headers, and tune each individual injector according to flow, etc. This is an unrealistic goal, so you will need to tune your car and leave one bank as close to lean as possible, with the other a little more rich. That's just the way it is.
