Default fuel pressure question

I have a freind that has just bought bad gas. He took it in to the shop he bought the gas from and their technician scanned it to find that the #6 cyl showed misfire. He changed the spark plug and did no good. It also showed that the egr was stuck open so he put a new egr. It did clear that code but did not fix the problem.
The truck was pinging loud the whole time but they did not want to think it was bad gas so they tell him he must have put diesel in the tank and sent him on his way.
We drained the tank of "gas" and it did smell a little stale but was certainly gas and not deisel.
Put new gas back in and went for a ride to find it was no longer pinging but bucking under a light load and would get a flashing ses light if you try to get on the gas hard,. We did a compression check just to eliminate a head gasket after pinging and all showed around 150 psi so that is ok.
We checked fuel pressure and this thing peggs a guage at 90 psi and bounces off teh top like it wants to go higher.

COuld this have messed up the fuel pump and regulater in the tank ?

Fuel pressure gauge is saying your regulator is
whacked, I guess; 55-60 is normal. Until that
gets straight everything else is going to be way
off and even after you fix it, there's unlearning
to be done.

Might throw in a bottle or two of Techron (or
the fuel injector cleaner of your choice) and drive
/ soak it for a bit, just to see if it'll get better.
