Default Problems with STFT tuning???

As per the tuning doc, I set PE to 640, turned LTFT "off". When I "Pulse" the gas pedal at 1200rpm and the rpms reach around 4000, my car shuts down and goes into reduced engine power mode and wont run. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Jason

Did you disconnect the MAF? If so, cannot do that on C5s. That part of the tuning document is wrong. The C5s MAF has the air intake temp sensor built into it.

Best way to put into SD mode, is by Changing the Fail Freq to 0, and then put it back to the orginal value when you done with SD mode.

Yes, maf is unplugged. Do you or anyone know where in Tuners I set MAF to 0?

Thanks,
Jason

Yeap, plug the MAF back in and do this. Open your latest BIN file in HPtuners and then go to Edit, Engine Diagnotics, General.

In that window you will be on the General tab. First line is MAF Sensor Fail Frequency, its probably set to 13500. Change that to 0. Save it, and reflash the VCM. Now when you start your car you will automatically be in SD mode. You may get a P0103 code, disregard it.

When you are done with your tuning and want to put it back to normal, just change that fail frequency back to 13500 and reflash the VCM.

Got it, thanks! Actually the Fail Frequency is set to 11250. Is that bad?

I saw one of replies on the corvette forum, and you were talking about calibrating the MAF...I was told, if your MAF is stock, then you should not mess with it? I just looked in tuners, and it does not show MAF Hz, and Dynamic Airflow. Do I need A-Tap?

Thanks Again,
Jason

that's fine. just write that number down, memorize it or something, and when you go back to stock, put that number in place of the 0

dont have to really remember that 11250 because you can always go back to your older BINs to see what it was set to.

Yeah true, I could and I most likely will. After looking at other Corvette bin files, their MAF Fail Frequency was set to 14000, is that better?

when I went to mine, thats what it was set at. It doesn't seem like its too big of a deal, but if you're worried, go to 14000, since so many others have it(including myself.)

Its not that big of a deal. Its just the frequency at which the VCM is told the MAF has failed. The higher the frequency the more air you are taking in, so if you are boosted, you can hit that frequency. 14000 is fine. But if you've never hit 11250, that is fine as well. Take a WOT run and see how high your MAF hz gets. I think you will be close to 10000.

I was just reading over the tuning doc(for the 100th time), and when it says to "pulse" the gas pedal in 3rd gear and rpms are 1200. Does that mean to punch it unitl 6000? Or to punch it,let off, punch it let off, punch it let off, etc until 6000?

Pulse meaning press and release a few times so the cell highlights as many cells as possible in the upper range of 4000+ rpm. Because its too hard to leave it floored while in 3rd gear when you are going to be at 100+mph.

I think the 98 Fbodies' PCM didn't support a MAF frequency over 11250, and your C5 might be the same way. That may be why your MAF fail frequency was set to 11250.

Yeah, I just checked other 98 F-Bods and C5's. They all have 11250 as the fail freq. So, I will put it back to 11250 when I'm done. Thanks.
