Default 1998 tunning?

I just bought a 1998 trans am yesterday and was wondering why all the tuners and LS1 edit are for 1999 and above. Can you tune a 1998 like the rest of the LS1's or is the ECM different?

LS1 Edit and HP tuners both Support 98s (HP tuners is the better choice by far)

Not sure which handhelds support 98s

the 98 is a different PCM than the rest.... you can tune it the same but it's different... so very few companies have added tuning capabilities for it (99-02 are all real similar... 98 is different... so most have ignored the 98)

How many tuning products are out for the LS1? HPTuners, FlashScan, LS1-Edit... TunerCat, Ease? Am I missing any? If not, I think it's misleading to say the majority of tuning vendors have ignored the '98 PCM, when from my understanding only FlashScan doesn't do it at this writing.

I don't know about TunerCat, but HPT & Edit support '98's, and supposedly FlashScan will support it soon according to their forum.

So far as using a '99 PCM, I've inferred that it's a nightmare, especially behind the instrument cluster.

You cant use a 99 PCm in a 98. The pin out on the wirring harness is different.

TunerCat claim they should have their '98 tuner ready for sale in the next three weeks or so. Mind you they have been saying that for quite sometime :-(

Of those mentioned... LS1 Edit and HPT are the only ones I know for sure that support 98 PCMs.... Ease is a tuner??? I thought it was just a scanner?

Preadator 98 support = none
Crane/Vinci 98 support = none
HPPIII support = present but not worth buying

LS1 Edit = supports 98 ... but not worth buying
HP Tuners = supports 98 ... best on the market right now
EFI Live = doesn't support 98
Tunercat = last I saw didn't support 98 .. but maybe that's changed recently? Tunercat seems to be behind even LS1 Edit so not sure what it has to offer
Ease = didn't realize they offered tuning capablities?

so seems a majority of LS1 tuners don't support 98s.... perhaps ignore wasn't the right word... more like not felt necessarily to add support for.... (LS1 Edit has had support for 98s for years... and HP tuners added support within months of release of their product back in early 2004 ... those options that are "coming soon" have been "coming soon" for 6 months plus now .... doesn't seem like they feel 98s are too important?)

I wasn't even considering the handheld units I guess I consider them a waste of money in the long run, like IAT resistors, MAFT's, etc.

Re: Tunercat & Ease - I wasn't sure if either did it, I just phrased it wrong
