Case re-learn with LS1Edit?
I've had a bunch of misfire problems lately. I replaced the following:
1. PCM
2. Cam Sensor
3. Crank Sensor
4. Plugs
My double valve springs are OK.
Question: What is a "Case Re-learn" and is it possible to do this with LS1Edit? I read somewhere here this is necessary after replacing a crank sensor.
Thanks

Generally CASE (Crank Angle Sensor Error) Learns are done after swapping a different PCM ... at least that's what I've seen most
I don't think replacing just the Crank Sensor makes this a requirement... but yOu did have to replace your PCM didn't you?
I doubt the LS1 Edit scan tool supports CASE Learns... EFI Live and HP Tuners (and Tech2) are the only scanners I'm aware of that allow this to be done...
if the Edit scanner does allow you to do this it should be pretty clear... somewhere should be a CASE LEARN button or something...

CASE learn must be done when any of these parts are removed or replaced:
- CKP sensor
- Front cover or bracket holding the crankshaft position sensor
- Target wheel (reluctor)
- Crankshaft
- Engine block
- Engine assembly
- PCM
The CASE learn procedure records the tolerance differences between the crank sensor and the reluctor. If anything disturbs that relationship then the tolerance/error needs to be re-recorded.
Obviously if you change PCMs (or even perform a full reflash without preserving* the CASE data) then you need to do a CASE learn.
* As far as I know, EFILive is the only LS1/LS6 Tuning Tool that offers an option to preserve learned CASE data during a full reflash.

huh?
So if am starting from scratch with a new engine and reflashed PCM I have to do a CASE relearn procedure? The PCM doesn't do this automatically? Does this have to be done everytime the battery is disconnected?

I have looked at the following software for Case relearn:
1. LS1Edit Version 1.05B
2. OBD-2 - Version 1.18 (Alex Pepper)
Neither appear to have the "case relearn" feature.
Does nayone know if the latest version of LS1Edit contains this feature?

May want to post up in your regional section as well... see if anyone close has either HP Tuners or EFI Live and can help you out (it doesn't take long to do... no sense paying a dealership big $$$ for a simple task)
I'm not sure if the latest version of edit has this or not... it'd be part of the scanner (for the actual case learn procedure) and I haven't heard of any additional progress being done on their scanner

Question: Aren't the majority of HP Tuners of EFI Live software appplications locked to a single PCM? If yes, this software cannot be used to perform a case relearn on another vehicle; right?

But this doesn't matter because what you need done isn't a flash... it's just a case relearn
Case Relearn is part of the scanner software, the scanner software will work on any supported OBDII GM application ... (both HPT and EFI Live will work on your car for the case relearn, this item isn't licensed to a particular PCM ... at least not w/HPT and I don't beleve it is w/EFI Live's scanner either) The scanner portion isn't licensed the same as the flash portion
And yes, the LS1 Edit scanner is downloadable from their site... not sure about the install though... I installed it just before I sold my LS1 Edit cable about 9 months ago (same version that you can download now lol) and I just double clicked the file I downloaded and it installed....

How expensive is the EFILive scanner that includes the case relearn feature? Is the scanner-relearn software sold sepretely from the EFILive PCM tuning software?
What is the least expensive way to obtain software that has the case relearn feature?
Thanks..

You can check with ThunderRacing and other sponsors to see what kind of deal they can get you.
Live is also having a speacial right now so you can trade in your LS1Edit and upgrade to their software. http://www.efilive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2021

Most tune up places with modern equipment will have the necessary equipment to do a case learn, cost is about $40-50. Also, EASE scanning software with GM enhanced software will do a case learn....most aftermarket OEM scanning software with a bidirectional cable has case learn software.

Gordy:
Where do you buy EASE scanning software with GM enhanced software?
Specifically, which aftermarket OEM scanning software with bi-directional cables has this feature?
Thanks...
I have (1) LS1Edit and (2) OBD-2 - Alex Peper scanning software. Apparently, neither software package has a case relearn feature - boo!
