Default How my Hypertech has helped me (pimply!)

Ok, real life example. Ya'll can argue dyno results and what each company posts as true gains, but here is a real life drag racing example. I only wish I had the video for you.

My 99 SS verses my brother's 03 cobra.

Me - Lid, K&N, and Hypertech
Him - Full Magnaflow exhaust and K&N filter

From what I've read, everyone says..."Hypertech sucks...don't buy that one...it won't do anything...blah, blah blah, etc."

From 60 - 120 with Hypertech installed. We both start out in 3rd gear and I'm dead even with him, if not a little bit out in front. It wasn't until 4th gear at over 100mph that he started pulling away from me. (yes, he is faster.)

Tonight, 60 - 100 WITHOUT Hypertech installed. We both start out in 3rd gear, and by 65 mph, he was pulling away from me quite quickly. By 100, I just gave up because there was no point...he was more than 2 car lengths ahead of me, if not 3. So, the Hypertech is a beastly tuner and it adds quite a bit of RWHP...enough at least to allow me to keep up with an 03 Cobra.

We actually raced from 15mph a few weeks ago and I DID have the tuner installed. Again, he was a little ahead of me almost the whole time, but my front bumper was at his driver side door the WHOLE TIME through 3rd gear. We hit 4th and then it was all over. Argue all you want and put down the Hypertech if you feel the urge, but I say, don't bash it until you try it. It has worked out quite beastly for me and there's no way I'm going to sell it now until I get the Turbo on. (I still have a few months for that though.) Any thoughts on this?

some cars they do work good on, they're just limited, you can't custom tune them, and the options to adjust are limited at best.

Maybe i'm just spoiled with using more flexible tools daily, even handhelds that can be custom tuned for your needs.

If your gonna buy one, get it from somebody used. Its a nice mod, especially for auto's but it is not worth the 4 bills they ask for it. I got mine for 2 bills, sold it, and now am going to get a "real" tune.

For the best results you should start in 2nd gear for a 60 roll race

Cant someone just log a car with Hptuners before and after a hypertech-tune... So we can see what it does.

From what I've seen on a 2000 Hypertech tune, they increase the timing in the 1200-2800 RPM range .36 g/cyl-.60 g/cyl in airflow 2 to 5 degrees, also 1-4 degrees advance from 2200-6000 RPM's .60 g/cyl - 1.2 g/cyl airflow. They also basically copied thier High Octane table to the Low Octane table with timing a little lower (3-4*) at 4400-6000 RPM's from .60 g/cyl - 1.2 g/cyl. I have a 2000 Z28 that had the Hypertech tune and I copied it with HPTuners to take a look. The Hypertech tune made the engine detonate above 5000 RPM's on my Z with a 160* stat installed and running the fans to correspond with the cooler stat. For reference, my Z28's airflow at idle is .16 g/cyl and WOT is .64 g/cyl peak. Mods are a lid and cat-back.
