Default Newbie question on EFILive

Hi,
just got EFILive, been reading the manual, etc.
But it does not specify, when you are reading or flashing the PCM, does the car need to have the IGN. on, but the engine NOT running, like my old LS1edit did?
Or can it be running? I can't ind anything in the manual that specifies.

I got to be certain, so i don't F-up my PCM!!

Flashing, ignition on, engine not running.

Scanning, ignition on, engine running or not running. Start enjoying 30 second flashes for a change.

You will be able to recover your PCM using EFILive. You will find it hard to fry another PCM.

Cheers Scotty.

the problem with edit was that it always wrote the whole thing, and EFI and HPtuners just write the table data...so it leaves the operating system completely in tact...which means even if there is a problem you can just try to rewrite the table data again....

Well, now I'm trying to get the tuning tool to "read calibration data from PCM", and it won't do it, can't remember the exact errors, but basically says my PCM hardware is not supported, and goes on to say something like, it must be a 1999-2005 ???
And my car is a '98.
But i thought they were supported now?? I went to the EFILive site and downloaded the latest 7.3 version, copied and pasted the files over, and now when i goto "about" it says V 7.3.0...
Still, it says my PCM type is not recognised or supported or some $hit.
I don't get it.

Same thing happened to me. Be sure to load all of the new calibrations from EFI Live and after you unzip them, drop them into the calibrations folder that came with V 7.2. Without the updated calibrations, you will get the PCM not recognized verbiage.

the 98's are still in beta testing. they are close to having everything done for it though. plus, you can tune all 98's and still have your 2 liscences.

Now I'm confused for sure. Which is it, still in beta-test, or should the 7.3.0 work for '98 models???
I have emailed ELILive support, and PM'd Jesse , but have not heard anything back yet.

It still in beta testing, only "special" beta tester have it. It is supposed to be ready for release any day now. It's not in 7.3.008 which is currently the latest release.

Ok now I know what's going on, I'll just have to wait a few days. No big deal, I can be studying the manualsand researching tuning in the meantime.

thanks for all the replies, this board just kicks azz !
