Not all software asks you for an install path. Many of the software packages I work with do not allow such, and these are high end packages for industry. Only the lower end packages (or software that is not very critical to where it is installed) I see give you the choice of an install path.

well I hope they fix it.

not everyone wants their software installed to c:\program files\hptuners for various reasons.

Then those high end packages have bad package writers I do this for a living. A writer should always give that option, as some poeple install to different drives.

I don't have HPT yet, do they use Installshield (which sucks), Wise, or another installer?

Damn straight. That is a REQUIREMENT for any package we create or install at our shop...

just an FYI.. this topic would be more helpful if it was posted on our forum in the feedback/requests section.

If you have feedback and/or requests and do not let us know, how are we to implement them?

Well, when you make software packages that has licensed seats, you do not want people to install it where ever they choose, hence why I said high end packages. Meanining they are for limited use and not generic software that can be copied or installed unlimited to any computer. These software packages run at $10,000 per seat and up.

Yup, I agree. I am in a similar situation, but my laptop is already set with the most current stuff, but still ... I need to hack someone's wireless connection.

Upgrading the OS to Win ME won't bog you down like XP would and I believe will get you IE 6. It is a good low end laptop upgrade from 98 especially if your 98 is not the 2nd edition.

Customizable install path is in 2.0.17 per Keith's response... which brings up a good point... if there are any changes/requests you have be sure to post them up on the HPTuners board.... they use that information to determine what goes into future releases (amongst other things)
