Is blinking SES always Misfire?
I've done searches, and most are saying it is. But I was wondering if that's the only reason it will blink. My SES light blinks, BUT it's usually only in higher gear, and doesn't start to run differently until I hit the gas. When doing that it stutters for just a second, with an occasional back fire, and then goes like normal. Car doesn't run differently AT ALL in lower gears, and has NO hesitation when going through the gears. Only when cruising steady, and in higher gear .. usually 6th.
I just got the motor back together from a spun bearing. I've checked the fitting on plugs and wires and everything seemed fine. I had the vaccume line that runs from the back of the intake replaced since it was broke before, and put on a new ASP pulley when the motor went back in. Don't think any of that would matter, but just saying incase it helps someone with helping me. I also have a TSP 233/239 cam in it, but had that before the spun bearing and no problems with the SES light.
Anyway, any help appreciated & if you need more details just let me know. Thx.

reson i ask is because for the longest time my car was running like **** and i had no idea why. I put the stock cam back in and had 2 misfires..cylinders 5 and 7. Also over that time i noticed coolant on the kmember....think it turned out to be a blown head gasket. Not sure though cause i havent put the car back together...wont be till the weekend of the 10th

The SES light should not be blinking for P0300 codes.
I thought a blinking SES light was a lot more serious than a solid SES light.

I can't tell you if the blinking SES is ALWAYS an ignition problem, but on my 2 Camaros it always has been.
My 96 did it intermittently, turned out to be bad wires from the factory.
My 00 did it when I left the #8 wire off after a header install.
My daughters' Blazer did it with bad plug wires, intermittently.
That's the sum total of my experience with blinking SES.
HTH.

I have always associated a blinking SES light as a "dead cylinder", as in not getting any spark whatsoever. A random misfire code is not uncommon, a completely dead cylinder means a totaled spark plug, poor wire connection, bad coil pack, bad wire, bad coil pack harness. That would be my guess. Start with the OBDII scan at Autozone and start replacing parts starting with the cheapest.
