Default Wideband tuning on a dyno for sealed "Ram air kits"

I have an 02 Z06 and i am going to be switching to a Vararam. It is a sealed ram air kit that pulls in air through the front fog light openings. Now on a dyno it can only pull in the air that would be coming from the fan infront of it. That's fine and it can be tuned to 12.9 AFR for dyno purposes. Now on the street or track at speed it would be pulling a considerable larger amount of air-so if i set the pe table to read 12.9 across the board won't the added airflow lean out the car? My question is if this is the case then shouldn't the car be tuned to like a 12.5 AFR as a cushion or richer?

If youf maf transfer function is correct, you will get the commanded air fuel ratio you are asking for.

Vortech,

I have a Vararam also. I got over 80 dyno runs and hundreds of deserted road runs and have never seen more then .2 to .3 difference in my WB readings. Even then I cannot get the difference to be repeated enough to develop a pattern I would trust, in other words do not worry about it....

Not a current ECU tuning expert, but per the physics and simple electronics, any ram pressure (and with 100% recovery of the velocity head, it's less than 3 kPa @ 150 MPH, ~ 1.25 @ 100) should be read by the MAP sensor as barometric pressure and by the MAF as greater air mass for same volume. Therfore there should be no effect on commanded AFR.

Simply put, if you tune the car right, more airflow due to your ram air kit should be automaticly adjusted for with more fuel.

If you actually do get a ram affect, your MAP sensor and MAF will read the increase and adjust accordingly.

What is the MAF transferfunction? I have a wideband so I guess next time after the car is tuned on the dyno I will have to hit the track and see what happens.

The maf frequency vs airflow table is the transfer function for the MAF sensor.

I'm not sure the exact name in Edit/EFI/HPtuners.

there's a bunch of really good threads, start reading stickies and especially a thread called 'how does MAF really works' (IIRC)
