Fuel pressure is?

Could be moisture in a fuel soloniod and it freezes makeing the fuel pump not kick on?

Probably a fuel pump. It may not have enough pressure and it would cause the same problem. When you pull the tank check the pass-thru connector they are bad about burning the terminals in the pass thru.

But if it is the fuel pump why would it only do it when cold out?I would think it would do it all of the time???

So far you have:
a. 30 degree weather no start.
b. Spark delivered (...did you eyeball this...?).
c. Fuel delivered (smell in exhaust).
d. Fuel smell in exhaust.

Sounds like it may be flooding, possibly due to fuel pressure regulator frozen (or even ruptured, causes flooding also).

What happens if you floor the gas pedal while cranking ("clear flood mode"), does it eventually start and run...?

May be a good idea to check fuel pressure.

check fuel pressure and if its good unhook a plug wire to make sure you are getting spark ground it to anything metal and get someone to crank it. if no fire it could just be a bad coil and have something to do with the cold.

I'd say fuel pump. I owned a 96 yukon, same motor. I'd say the FP is going south, Can you hear the FP kick on you turn on the ingnition.

if you have fuel and spark it will run. you must not have one of these. try pushing the pedal down some while trying to start it. if its flooded it might not run but if you have air which you do, fuel and spark it will run.

The hei distributer also can control the pulsing of the pump. Maybe the HEi modual is bad? But he has spark. Hmm. ....

Yes that is correct,I have spark.I thought that was the problem,I was very surprised to see that.Because it is acting like no spark. When I get to work tomorrow I am going to squirt a few drops of gas down the TB to see what happens. I tried to start it with the gas to the floor ,it does nothing just like not touching the pedal.

The stock fuel pumps on them are louder than a walbro 255, If you can't hear it at all switching on the ingnition, something is wrong with it.

When you turn the key to on, you should hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds (and if you have fuel pressure gauge attached you'll see at least 30 psi or so, and it should hold that pressure).

If you don't hear the fuel pump, you can try:
a. connect fuel pressure guage, this will show if fuel pump runs at key on,
b. check fuel pump fuse (under hood, near fuel pump relay),
c. connect fuel pump test wire (under hood, near fuel pump relay) to battery positive and see if fuel pump runs,
d. reseat or replace fuel pump relay.

If neither of these helps, you have to get out multimeter and see why voltage is not getting to fuel pump.
