Default Jumping wires on the MAP?

I just got a '98 Trans Am that wasn't running real good. Took the intake off and found a paper clip or two stuck in the MAP wiring plug.
Why would someone do this?

Maybe...it didn't throw any map codes. Just secondary air solenoid and #2 misfire.
#2 misfire was an easy one-broken connecting rod.

Probably had a bad MAP sensor and they did not want to replace it....and they weren't to bright and jumpered it out. I would plug it back in and see what happens, you may have to replace the MAP sensor.

The old GM map sensor was still under the hood, the one that was on it was new. I guess it they thought it was bad because the missing piston caused a change in vacuum.

Yeah, that might throw the vac off a little.

The only other thing I can think of is that sometimes the MAP is loosen where it fits into the intake and maybe they were using the clip to hold it on/in ?

Good thought but no, they used wire for that. The clips were pushed into the back of the connector with it still plugged into the MAP.

That's a strange place to store paperclips.

Yea they were there shoved into the terminals.
The deal on the car sort of changed though (since I first posted this question).
Now I have the engine, trans, rear, a huge mess of the wiring harness, and a bunch of other stuff.
If I keep this engine I might try going to a carb or a controller other than stock.
