Default LS1 Edit

First post here.

I have owned LT1 Edit for a couple years and just a month ago purchased an 02 TA. Been playing LS1 sponge for this perod, trying to understand what's up in this engine.

I bought Ease Daignostics for the 02, as it is the only one available that would support my Compaq iPAQ (handheld) as well as a pc based package.

It really threw me when I saw 18-22 degrees timing at wot! I though it just couldn't be right and perhaps the Ease software was just wrong. Seems, if you check out the LS1 Edit features at www.carputing.com that there is 2 timing tables, high octane & low octane (that's what they are called) and the pcm is testing timming and automaticaly determining which maps to use. In my part of the world the gas this time of year is oxegenated (sp?) and perhaps that's why, but I doubt it.

I'm told by the author of LT1/LS1 Edit that an 02 pcm can be readily replaced by a 00 pcm and therefore LS1 Edit could be used now. NE1 have experience with that? 01-02 support in LS1 Edit isn't scheduled till late this year.

Also, ne1 have some insight to torque management?
I've not had an A4 before and never cared to understand the tuning aspects for one with LT1 Edit (my 96 is M6) and now I'm wanting to understand the deeper workings of what goes on in the automatic tranny world. Seems harder shifts and higher shift points are in order.

Yes, somewhere in internet land there NEEDS to be a tuning resource for the LS1. I've been searching hard for almost a month and what I have found is very little hard information.

good luck finding much more info on self-tuning than you've already found. sounds like swapping in a pre 01 PCM would accomodate a currently available LS1Edit. i know the feeling: i dont want to wait till late this year either as i have a 2001 C5. i am currently making due with my ScanEase and the MAFT and playing around with IAT resistance values to tweak a little on the timing. i know there is more. especially when i run a cold plug and mix high octane gas, i want tons of timing!! at least more than stock will give me. dam, you're timing sucks at WOT!! are you getting KR? any mod's yet? is something causing false knock? you're missing out on ~30-35hp (or more) by my calculations. i feel your frustrations. i cant wait for the Edit. if you run into any other options, drop me a line and vice-versa. hey, i would like to suggest you get the following tech book to really bone up on the LS1/LS6: Corvette Fuel Injection Systems by Charles Probst. you can get it at Amazon.com. i'm about 75 pages into it. it is an EXCELLENT technical book. get it. $25 well spent.

Well, in '01 GM changed the cam in the fbodies and advanced it more from the factory. The most timing I ever saw with my '01 was 24.5° and it took until almost redline to see that. You should see about 18-19° through the midrange with the timing starting to pick up towards the upper rpm's. This should hold true for the '02s because I don't think anything got changed from '01. I've got an excellent Atap log that shows the timing on my car. I'll see if I can find it and post it.

I kinda think GM did this to kill power a little. My old car(2000 SS) felt much stronger than my '01(stock vs. stock) but, I guess I couldn't attribute that to just the timing. It would be interesting to see how a '01-'02 car does with about 4° more timing.

I just wish LS1-edit was out for the '01 cars.

I am seeing anywhere from .4 to 1.6 degrees of kr (at each shift) which is only adding to my "wtf" attitude in learning what goes on with this thing. I'll try switching to Sunoco94 (usually run Mobil93) but perhaps I should just not concern myself untill more miles are on it and warmer weather arrives and the reformulated cleaner gas goes away.

I would think anything less then 3 degrees knock reported is a "Don't Care"

It might not be real knock, maybe due from torque management or TCC ( if an A4)
With Ease look at Delivered Torque and TCC,see what they are doing during shifts to see if they are not tricking PCM into thinking its knock.

Your lucky to be able to get that type of octane, max 91 here in wacko Ca, but with octane your getting I would not think you'd be getting much knock unless your burning oil and have carbon buildup.

Knock at a shift point is typical and is caused by vibration/noise, not too much timing. Also haven't you guys heard about the LS1 edut message board? Go here to sign up.

I just got my LS1 edit for my '98 vette this week. It sure has a lot of stuff that you can do. My first goal is to get rid of a sporadic KR of up to 9 deg when I launch my car in bracket racing. I torque brake to around 1200 rpms and have autotap'd virtually every run for a couple of years. I have never been able to get rid of it so far. I have checked the exhaust, fuel, fuel pressure, and never found the culprit.

I would also like to see some expertise on this whole tuning adventure.
