Default Transfer frequency from one keyless remote to the other?

Not sure if this belongs here, but seems appropriate given it does involve the PCM.

I have a remote from a 1999 Chevy Silverado and I'm trying to get it to learn the frequency of my current remote for my Tahoe which functions properly but has a cracked case.

Does any one know this process? For what it's worth it's for a 1998 Chevy Tahoe. The Owner's Manual does not describe the process.

It would be fine to make the Tahoe receiver recognize the new remote. The problem with simply swapping the circuit boards is that they are shaped differently. The outer cases are identical but the internals are not.

The '99 Silverado remote has the lock/unlock buttons with a red panic button on the bottom left below the lock button. The cracked '98 Tahoe remote has the lock/unlock buttons with a rear door unlock button below the unlock button.

Is it possible for the Tahoe to learn the '99 Silverado remote?

Do the model / FCC ID numbers match? If yes then, in the fuse compartment on the drivers side in the cab on the console pull the "radio" fuse. Have all remotes you want to reprogram in hand. Turn the ignition key to RUN (4 out of 5). Simultaniously press and hold the lock and buttons on the first remote. The Body Control Module (BCM) will then lock, unlock and pop the rear hatch signifying that you are in programming mode. Subsequently simultaniously press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on any other remotes (up to 4) you want programmed to this vehicle. Turn the key off and reinsert the radio fuse. Try all remotes to ensure proper programming. Notes: (1) Perform this proceedure with the vehicle at least 30 ft away from other GM products with remotes. (2) If your Model / FCC ID numbers don't match you can probably get'm on ebay for a lot cheaper than the dealer.

The FCC ID's ended up being different so that nullified making the '99 remote work.

BTW, you don't have to pull the fuse or have the key in the ignition at all on a 1998. You just jump #4 and #8 on the ALDL connector and that places the truck into learn mode. Then you just press the lock/unlock buttons simultaneously. Got a new remote from Autozone and this is how we programmed it.
