Default Able to connect (hptuners) last year fine, now i cant!

Used Hptuners all last summer, stored car and installed new parts. Now when trying to connect to scanner, it says, cable not found on 3 and 4 and then goes idle. I unplugged everything and then plugged it back in, tried again and it said Connected and gave me a voltage in the bottom corner, so I hit the play button to start scanning and then the "trying to reconnect" window comes up and thats it. It connected only the one time and now I cant get anything!

Any ideas?

THanks

Confused. Why does that matter? Cigarette lighter has to work to power my Laptop since there is no battery in it.

Added info: At first I thought that I might have screwed up the wiring or something when I installed the 408 but I have a couple of other interfaces and software packages that I sometimes use and the one that I tried worked fine so.........................

New update. I tried a different computer with the SAME cables. It connects to the scanner intermittently which is somewhat good. Problem is it wont read or write the VCM. WHen I try to write, it asks what file I want to use, then it starts working and comes back with a "download request timeout" error.

Anyone?

are you using a USB-serial adapter? if so what brand?

The issue is communications related:
1. bad serial cable (they can break from constant bending)
2. low quality USB-Serial adapter
3. slow PC, try reducing RX buffer size
http://www.hptuners.com/help/introdu...hooting.htm#c2
this can also happen if your PC was just ok, but then installed a processor hungry virus scanning s/w etc.
4. bad connection on vehicle ODB2 connector (the pins can lose tension or come loose. rare, but it does happen).

Its a keyspan usa-19h. It worked fine all of last year. I guess it is possible that it may have a broken piece from bending, i guess thats possible. PC is not slow. 3ghz, plenty of ram, and no background apps.
