I know that the temp sensor is different, and that a 99+ PCM won't properly feed the 98 gauge cluster... however Speed Inc supposedly has a piggyback system that lets the 99+ PCMs work w/the 98 gauge cluster...
If someone could do a writeup on what's involved it would definetly be sticky material....

why do you guys want to do this???? call up Byran @ PCMforless.com and see what a professional has to say about this, I am a 98 and he claims that i can do anything that 99-02 PCM's can do you just need to know how to do it, there are plenty of FI 98's or NOS 98's and motor swap 98's so why do you want to spend money just to go to a 99-02 PCM??

Well if you use EFI Live then if you have one the 99+up PCMs you have access to their custom operating systems that can make life easier with forced induction and soon NO2 from what I hear. Yes, their are alot of accomplished 98 setups out there running the stock 98 PCMs. What is wrong with wanting to improve / make life easier?
