ses light = loss of power??
ok my ses light is on but i checked it and know for a fact that it is the air pump that is triggering it..the pump is bad..now i have the slp cold intake package and i just got a great local deal on a brand new borla exhaust for 380$..i have 63k..now why does my friend keep up with me with his stock 2001 z28 and i have a 99 z28..ohh he does have 34k miles..now could it be the ses light but i also didnt have a tune up on my car so maybe thats whats causing it to be slower at higher rpm..it also runs very rich when fired up..does anybody know if the ses light could cut power..maybe it puts the computer in a different mode when ses light is on??..sorry bout the long story..some help please

He has an LS6 intake which may be good for around 15 HP more than your ls1 intake. The 01-02 motors came with the ls6 intake. Also some cars just run stronger than others.

I dont think that an ses light for the air pump should put you in any sort of limp or safe mode. Are the cars a4 or m6 that could have something to do with it too?

ok they are both a4..now he is stock z28 01 and i have 99 z28 egr mod..cold air intake supposed to be worth 25 hp and borla exhaust at least 15 more..is it possible dat he cathes up with me at higher rpms..when we race i take off a little bit because of my qa1 rear shocks but as soon as i reach 3k rpm he cathes up and i also have a b&m shift kit..what is going on???i know i have 63k on the dash and he has only 34k..i havent done a tune up..i have to change belts spark plugs, wires and get underdrive pully..but doesnt make sense to me unless the ses light is messing me up???

CAI worth 25 HP Who told you that ****?? You might get 10 at the most if your lucky. That light is not messing you up. The EGR mod is worth nothing HPwise. His car is probably just more powerful. You may also need a tune up. plugs/wires/air filter/fuel filter/injector cleaner/seafoam

I would first find out why the SES light is on... maybe a bad O2 and you just think it's cause of EGR or AIR... never assume anything (I did that and found that the SES that is normally on because I run SD was also on because of a bad coil pack )
also as mentioned... don't beleve the numbers the aftermarket manufacturers claim.. CAI and exhaust is doubtful to net you 40hp (also those numbers are flywheel, you're probably 15-20hp increase from those mods maybe)

no i know for a fact that it is my air pump because im a smog tech so i check my codes on the daily basis..but i think i need 2 get a tune up done and probebly replace the o2s..even if i did get 20 hp with both mods 2 the ground i still think that he should beat me..kinda makes me mad because i spent like 700 on mods and he goes buy a stock camaro and can keep up and even beat me..grrr

well considering his has the ls6 parts he might already have a 15-20 hp advantage stock vs stock, so your exhaust might make it even up and the intake really wont do much for you. Plus you have higher milage and probably need a tune up. Some people have good gains just by replacing their old worn out plugs and wires, I have heard of a few gaining 15 hp by doing that. I replaced mine recently and it woke up a little bit.

im temporarily getting a rear knock sensor code(wire was pinched, or the sensor is now bad). my question is, does that put me in a "safe mode" or just pull 2 degrees of timing by default across the board?

knock sensor code will kill performance... 4* KR at all times WOT, and you are stuck in the low octane timing tables...
I once had a knock sensor issue... lost over 1 second in the 1/4 mile
