Default Who still makes laptops with serial?

DB9 stuff?

I hate the USB to serial adapters.

I don't think HP comes with them anymore.

Panasonic Toughbook still has them

I use a CF-73... this is the machine that any serious tuner needs, serial, TOUCHSCREEN, and a carrying handle. Small compact size, and up to 4 hours of real tuning use battery life (with aux battery installed)

Other than the Toughbook lines, only desktop replacement laptops seem to have them, and they suck for tuning, since they are power hungry, and huge.

If you have HP Tuners, you can upgrade to the new hardware, and its USB. they did do away with serial on notebooks very fast. i had to ditch a few devices(not anything important) cause they were serial

I have a 1GHz Dell Inspiron 8100 that I got because it has
serial ports (and a hella nice screen). I think it set me back
a big $400. It's plenty good enough for anything I do.

On my old slow laptop I had no troubles with the IOGear
$29 USB-serial dongle I got at Wal-Mart.

you can also buy a PCMCIA serial card... no USB to serial to worry about, and they give you 2 to 4 serial connections

I looked into PCMCIA serial cards but was told they were junk for our application. I've had good luck with my keyspan unit, however data rates seem faster on pc's with a true serial connection.

Durabook laptops still have serial ports. They also have magnesium outer cases and shock protection for the hard drive, making them more suitable for in-car logging during hard launches and such. Unfortunately, they have recently become more difficult to find.

Toshiba Satellite CDS, 650 mHz, 5 GB HDD, 198 MB RAM, CD, Floppy, Windows XP
$120 on eBay. Runs HPTuners version 2.1 with no problems. Check on eBay, there's a ton of good used laptops.
