Help!help!stupid Idle Up/down Surging
WE HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM IN MY FRIENDS CAR FOR A LONG TIME IDLE SURGING UP AND DOWN ,WE CANT GET IT FIXED .I SWAPPED INTAKE GASKETS TODAY PROBLEM STILL THERE,ANY IDEAS.ITS A 02"CAMARO WITH PATROIT S'2 HEADS,228/232 114,HLT,FAST 90/90 STOCK INJECTORS.IF U ALL REMEMBER THIS IS THE CAR CHUCK FROM HPE TUNED.IM GOING TO PUT THE STOCK TUNE BACK AND START AGAIN.MAP READS 65 THEN DOWN TO 30 WHEN SURGING UP AND DOWN.STFT +6 AT IDLE, THAT THE ONLY PROBLEM WE HAVE,THE STUPID IDLE. CAR RUNS GREAT JUST THE IDLE PROBLEM.WEVE GONE 11.80N/A AND 10.80 WITH 125 DRY.NO VACUUM LEAKS,WE SUSPECTED INTAKE GASKETS BUT DIDNT FIX IT,JUST LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS.WHEN FIRST FIRED UP IDLE IS GOOD, PUT IN DRIVE THE DAMN THING STALLS BY ITSELF TO 1300-1500.REV IT A LITTLE BIT FORGET IT UP AND DOWN 1500-500 DOESNT CHANGE UP/DOWN,TURN OFF AND ON IDLES FINE TILL PUT IN DRIVE AGAIN OR REV IT,ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS LET ME HEAR THEM

Pvt. Pyle, you don't have to shout here, you are not on the Island. (Still whiping spittle of my face) So you are saying that Idle in Park/Neutral is fine but Idle in Gear is where things go bad? If so, is this only during warm up? Or does it happen all thru the temp spectrum? At any rate it sounds like a simple fix, up the amount of air in gear. If you don't have ready access to tuning software try bumping up the set screw on the Throttle Body. Breathe Pvt. Pyle, Beathe.

Ok so the throttle body is not the issue. I'm gonna assume you have a tuning program because you quoted map and ltft values. Log your long and short term idle trims and then add the appropriate amount to the idle airflow tables (for both park and drive). If it surges too much to get the idle trims, add a bunch to the airflow table (maybe 3 g/s) until it idles well enough to get the idle trims. You may have to raise the idle speed to get it to calm down in drive, and if so hopefully he has a stall converter.

LOL DOC,yes I do have HP tuners,right now Im going to the track to download his stock file back with increased timing,idle and the basics.What airflow table are u talking about,be specific

Thanks guys got it dialed in perfect,engine now idles okay rev it, slowly comes down to 850 purrs like a kitten,put in drive needle doesnt even move steady as a horse,Thanks again
