Default ls1 harness question

i can get a harness for free, out of my buddies 01 trans am for my swap. hes going the carb route. does anyone know if i can get everything off his harness that i need while still leaving him with whatever he needs for his gauges etc? im not afraid to get in there and modify the harness i just wonder if anyone knows is i'll be wasting my time.

Unless he rewires the whole thing, he'll still need most of his harness. The pcm drives the gauges, so it will still need to be there. Also the ignition will still be driven by the pcm (unless he's going aftermarket on the ignition control), so he'll need to keep the cam and crank sensors, coolant temp, etc. for the pcm to drive the coils.
