Default Will the wrong gear ratio in PCM effect performance?

Well i am just wondering.. my PCM thinks i have 3.70 gears in my car and i only have 3.23's.. would this affect performance in any with with an A4? would the vehicle speed sensor and TPS be confused in anyway due to it thinking its going a different speed? Let me know what you guys think.. it seems it is possible but i'm not sure..

Thanks for any replies!

yes it'll have a effect on your entire transmission.. its lockup, its shiftpoints... and a few little things, like the fans. your speedo will also be off..
you should have someone flash it with the correct ratio.

BTW, this is NOT advanced tech, and it belongs in the PCM section

my car thinks it has 2.73's but I actually have 3.42's...

I drove from oklahoma to washington dc, around DC for 7 months then back to oklahoma and it hasn't hurt anything.... except the speedo, but I will be dead before I lose ownership of this car....

just because "it hasnt hurt anything" to your knowledge, doesnt mean its working right.

yea my concern was whether it would mess with some of the electrical parts of the transmission.. rather than just shift points? I was just wondering.. it seems as if it could be possible!

Download efilive and open a tune up. That will show you all the trans tables that use speed for calculations, shifts etc. Then you can decide for yourself

Actually the gear ratio is not used to calculated the vehicle speed for transmission shifts on the LS1.

While that may be true for the F-body I don't think it can quite be true for the C5 given it's VSS. Gearing has to be backed out to get to tranny output shaft rates from axle rates.

it's usually accounted for in the trans rev/mile and other scalars, a real GM hack

could you just get your car fixed? i mean really.....I don't mean to be an *** in any way, i really don't. but why don't you get it fixed? instead of writing about it up here.

Unless you are truly wondering if at all in any way shape or form that this could affect you cars performance.

what are you trying to say? i'm in here trying to figure out my cars problem rather than spending tons of money on something that may not even change anything.. I'm not really mr. big baller.. i just bought a house and don't have money.. so i'm trying to get everything running good without nickel and diming myself to death.. i'm also trying to educate myself about the transmission tuning so i understand what it is doing.. If you have a problem with my post.. then don't post.. or instead maybe you know something i don't and you can post that?

I agree, but I was just providing a point that as long as he isn't out beating on it then it shouldn't hurt anything......

I should have went a little further in detail
