Default Vehicle milage reads "ERROR"....wtf?

The car has been sitting all winter...started and driven from time to time. Today after doing some work, I took it for a test drive. That was the first time I had noticed this. The car ran fine...no SES light.

I pulled the battery cable and tried to reset the computer, which did not help.

The odometer is working as well as the speedo.

Anyone seen this before?

Thanks,
Doug

I have a 98 cluster if you need it, it has the bottom gauges silver faced, but the large 2 gauges are still stock, (the gauges I was sent were for the wrong face plate setup.)

You can swap the faces with your stock gauge cluster.

Milage showing is sub 60K for this cluster.

I have sent the email. Thanks again everyone for your help.

So would a new cluster even help the problem, if it is caused by currupt information in the PCM?

oh I know!! The blinker fluid is low, so when he turns it goes away from the pickup tube causing the mileage to read inaccurate!!! I got it!!!

The PCM does not contain the milage info.

Correct, its the BCM (Body Control Module).

Problem with those, there's so many variants, including within the same year.

Ok well, Thanks everybody for your help (or maybe sympathy is a better word).

So where do I go from here?

The BCM is located where? Should I look at the harness for corrosion/ground? Any other thoughts?

Say the BCM needs to be replaced. How do I avoid problems with emissions when I go for my next "test" and they see a different mileage? I can not even remember the correct mileage, but somewhere around 112K.

I have been driving the car today and have found nothing else wrong with any BCM functions.

EEK!!! Dealer!?!?!?!?

my other problem is my lack of cats. Also the car has been tuned with LS1Edit some time ago (to delete codes for emissions).
