Default maf sensors

Has anyone put a high flow maf sensor from slp (or perhaps a diff. brand) in their car(or know someone or recommend it) while with stock tuning and have good luck with it? I've read tests finding gains of over 5hp and 5ft/lbs torque(with screen). Just wondering what some people thought and if it would be a good idea for me to do.

Do a search, you will find TONS of information on this. Most will agree that the slp maf is garbage (nightmare to tune), some of the others are decent. I think, you usually need to retune with them though. But the stock maf is good for tons of hp, so imo, keep the stocker.

keep the stock MAF and save your money. its not worth changing. descreen it and tune it

I descreened it, and I have read on porting the stock housing, (cut out the metal divider) and wet sand it smooth. This should help flow more air, along with the screen removed. I have heard good things about it. anyone agree?

I wouldn't touch the screen. That screen helps straighten the airflow into the MAF. Removing the screen will cause "un-metered" air to enter the engine in which the PCM will not report. This will play all kinds of hell with tuning. Tip-ins, hesitations and detonation can also plague the drivability.

The stock MAF can handle well over 600 RWHP so why bother touching it. Sometimes it pays to have stock sensors on the car.

If you descreen it then you are going to have to buy a new new from GM. Seriously, take the MAF and try to blow through it! No resistance whatsoever!

Hopefully no one will agree.

Messing with the MAF screws everything up (tuning wise).

Leave it stock. Leave the screen in.

If you want to port something, port the throttle body.

I don't think the MAF causes much restriction either, but if someone really wants to reduce it, just go with a speed density tune and remove it entirely.

yep. might be a little hell for some people tuning the VE and dialing it in but its worth it, and the same exact power can be made

any airflow coming thru the front of the MAF is metered...the turbulence from removing the screen is what causes problems

Loads of guys recommend the GM 85mm MAF from trucks etc.
Just swipe the truck table from the truck tune, throw in the 85mm maf, and there you go.
