"Tampering Inspection" - weird. When I was in Wake County only got a visual and sniffer test, but was a couple years ago - heard they were going to OBDII only.

That is nothing out of the normal, that is the visual inspection that is performed. If the codes are deleted they have no way of telling. The wya the testing works is it looks for a trouble code, if its there, it makes sure its emission related, if it is it fails. If the SES light is not enabled, it doesnt look for codes and passes, so we will pass. Whoever you talked to apparently didnt want to inspect and pass your car so they are feeding you a line of bull ****.

As long as SES enable is set of off you have no issues here in NC. All the cars I do go through inspection with no issues.

From what I understand, not possible. You need it to throw a code in order to revert to SD mode, otherwise it will simply factor in the lowest MAF value and will likely stall teh car.

From my understanding that's not 100% true.... from what I understand, they (govt) currently don't check to see if the OS is stock... however, I've heard from a few sources that they (EPA inspection places) actually download the full PCM flash when they connect...

If this is the case... they can tell if the PCM is alterred... but thing is it's not currently worth the effort to check (since there are so many OS's for a given model year... imports are even worse than the LSx PCM I believe)

For now though they just check for an SES and the readiness tests

usually you just leave SES enabled and set error codes to "no error reported"...and it passes...

SD its not possible to do that....if you set SES on and No error reported for the MAF the car wont even run no matter what you do...

That's not new - that is just a list for the visual part. Do I see a cat? PASS. Do I see o2's? PASS.

thing is I dont think maf is part of any readiness tests meaning you could turn off the ses, set them to no mil & you should be able to pass as far as I can see...wish I had a test dummy car

I can't see them actually pulling down a stock file to do a conparison. However, there are numbers that can be used to determine if a stock file is in the vehicle....
