Well I have to get inspected in July w/ longtubes, no cats, no egr, no air in charlotte. Codes have been deleted. I will let you know how it goes. Any ideas of places that dont open the hood?

"Tampering Inspection" - weird. When I was in Wake County only got a visual and sniffer test, but was a couple years ago - heard they were going to OBDII only.

That is nothing out of the normal, that is the visual inspection that is performed. If the codes are deleted they have no way of telling. The wya the testing works is it looks for a trouble code, if its there, it makes sure its emission related, if it is it fails. If the SES light is not enabled, it doesnt look for codes and passes, so we will pass. Whoever you talked to apparently didnt want to inspect and pass your car so they are feeding you a line of bull ****.

From my understanding that's not 100% true.... from what I understand, they (govt) currently don't check to see if the OS is stock... however, I've heard from a few sources that they (EPA inspection places) actually download the full PCM flash when they connect...
If this is the case... they can tell if the PCM is alterred... but thing is it's not currently worth the effort to check (since there are so many OS's for a given model year... imports are even worse than the LSx PCM I believe)
For now though they just check for an SES and the readiness tests
