Default 4.5* of knock retard.. effects?

What affects does 4.5* of knock retard have on RWHP/RWTQ? My car did the numbers in the sig locked with the tune pretty dialed in. Some tweaking was done on my tune today with some tranny issues I had. HP Tuners showed about 4.5-4.8* of knock retard at 100% throttle on some of the test runs. The knock sensors got desensitized some and it went down to about .5* of knock very briefly at WOT. How much could the 4.5-4.8* have hurt me?

That's a lot of KR at WOT and definitely can kill some power. How many degrees of timing are you running at WOT?

KR only takes power if it is a drivetrain noise. If you are getting KR from actual detination then pull your total timing down to where it doesn't KR.The most timing without KR doesn't mean you'll get the most HP.

What could cause KR from the drivetrain? I'm dealing with this issue as well.

Exhaust banging is one cause. I've also heard of the valvetrain noise causing kr.

I was getting 4.5* of timing on mine as well during WOT runs. Since the tranny went out a week later, I pulled it out and looked at the driver side header, sure enough, even with the k-member notched, the headers was tapping the k-memeber under WOT. Since then, I notched a little more and put poly motor mounts in to see if it fixed the problem. Now, I am just waiting on the tranny.

A good test is to run some 100+ octane, which will not detonate until far more timing is advanced than the stock setting. If it still shows KR, then it is likely not actual detonation. If it goes away, then it probably was.

For me, I had a 92-110 mix, so i did not suspect detonation. My headers were freshly painted so I could easily see where the driver side header was making contact with the k-member.

what about further down the driveline like the lca's. If they were banging, like rod ends do would that cause it? What about a vibration say from the clutch?
I just put new gas in it and it seems to run a whole lot better but I really wont know until I get to the track. I dont have any scaning tools or a laptop so I cant check to see whats going on.
