Default no tach

Lost hp the other day so I hooked-up my snap-on scanner I was checking the mis-fire and notice that when I rev the engine up the tach on the scanner stops working but the one one the dash works fine. Check with another car and scanner works fine could it be the crank sensor.

I think that the cam sensor controlls the dash tach and that works fine, not sure if the crank sensor send the rpm's to the pcm or what.
