Default SD vs. MAF pro-con??

In the process of putting a 402 LS2 in a '01 Z06. The cam is 239/248 .649/.615 110LSA +1, 3.42 gear stock weight. Car will be ready to tune in about 10 days. Weekend car, 1000mi max/year. My tuner seems to be wanting to back away from a SD tune, I think it should be worth it. What do you guys think? Pro's and con's?? How much more $$$ for a SD tune, with/without dyno time. Thanks!!

You really don't need a SD tune. With a MAF tune it can run perfect. There is absolutely no power difference between a good SD tune and a good MA tune.
If the Cam was bigger,I might push SD for low end throttle response.

years after years... trashing the MAF is still around.

don't do it. your car will run fine with the MAF and you won't notice a difference without it. IF TUNED RIGHT. and MAF tuning i think is easier than MAFless tuning, as i'm used to doing it too though

I think then I'll have him do a MAF tune then, he says he can get drivibility fine, which was my biggest concern. I'm not biased either way. Thanks!

Yeah, I usually recommend tuning with the MAF as long as it's not being pegged. Even then, some have managed to still use the MAF (if you look at that 'other' thread that's been at the top recently). Unless you switch to forced induction, you shouldn't have to worry about that.

With the MAF, you can run a dry shot of nitrous and you can set your timing tables to pull lots of timing at the higher grams/cylinder cells. I run up to 30 degrees NA and 20 degrees across the board from .96 gr/cyl up. 20 degrees works well for making over 600 rwhp.
