Default Engine won´t start

A friend of mine just bought a wrecked 2002 SS A4 and can't get the engine started. He can switch the ignition on and the dash lights up but then when he tries to start, you hear some clicking and nothing more. The battery is good and it does not sound like the battery is low it just clicks and quits. I scanned the car an got U 1000 Class 2 communication malfunction. Does anyone have ideas?

It's not the battery. Is there anything that comes to mind that could be causing this, other than a failed starter or a wire problem. What about the theft protection and how do I check for that. I have HPtuner pro.

I'd start by checking the starter. After that I would verify all the module on the bus are present and functional.

Well the engine turns over and were able to start the car, but only by blocking the fuel return. It appears that there is a pressure regulator in the tank on the returnline that doesn't hold pressure. Now the question is, why? Is it because a malfunction or beause of VATS or because the shock in the wreck tripped a safety switch?
