Default Tuning Issue?

I recently purchased a 2001 M6 z28 with ~60k miles on it now. The LS1 has bolt ons and a TSP 231/237 598".595" cam, with dual valve springs and hardened push rods. The cam was installed by RPM and the car was tuned by Jeff Creech.

Here is the dyno (with high flow cats).

The car is averaging 15 mpg and is consuming about a quart of oil a month. I am aware LS1's consume oil, but that much? I am currently running Mobil 1 10w30 and considering changing to a 0w30.

My question: Is this normal or a result of running extremely rich? Do you think paying 250$ for a custom tune will cause any considerable difference? I am looking for a balance of driveability and power.

Your AFR is still a little lean, I would want it a bit under 13.0. Also the car will always try to maintain 14.7:1 AFR during idle and part throttle operation. So yoiur WOT AFR will have really no affect of your gas mileage.

Anyway 15MPH isnt bad on a car with that size cam. Do you do mostly highway or around town driving? I get like 18MPH but I do strictly city driving most of the time.

BTW, 5w30 is what GM recommends.

Is that cam running in closed loop and is the LSA tighter then 114 or so ??

Its a balance between highway and city, both in considerable traffic. I drive from Durham, NC to UNC Chapel Hill (~10 miles) and back every day. When I first got the car it was averaging 17mpg, and it had averaged 22mpg on highway trips.

It may be juat time for new O2 sensors and a tune up to help with gas mileage.

change ur pcv valve for the oil consumption, costs under 5 bucks.. and you can also throw in a catch can so the oil doesnt recirculate back through the intake. that helps prolong engine life.

That will cause it to burn more oil. As far as mileage, you need to borrow or buy a scanner and monitor your O2s, STFTs and LTFTs while cruising to see what's happening. This will varify that the O2s are working and that it's properly tuned.

If his car still has cats, then its not lean. I know Jeff uses a tail pipe wide band when tuning on the dyno. From what I remember him saying, it was about .3 difference.
