g5x4 cam, no tune
'98 camaro, 6spd, new forged motor, g5x4 cam, long tubes, lid, pulley, stock ls1 intake.... going to drive it around for a while before dyno tune to break in the motor. will this hurt anything? the car won't idle which i figured was tuning. what do you think i am losing hp wise without a tune?

thanks
so running that rich for a few days could do some damage eh? what about tuning, how hard is it really? i hate dropping $500 for a dyno tune when i could buy the stuff for the same price and do it myself....

Ok this is unsolicited, I live hundreds of miles away from you. I know you can find a decent tuner in the Houston area for less than 500 and be done with it. The amount of research required to find a qualified tuner is going to be ultimately less than you spending the next couple of months on this board learning how to tune. The only reason I take this tone is if you had researched this part of your project at this point you would'nt be in the position you are in right now. I know you have spent a considerable amount of jack on your car and just want it to be fast and be done with it-no problem. You will pay one way or another, weather it is in time and money learning how to do it yourself or subbing it out. Just depends on how much patience you have.

GET IT TUNED. don't waste all the money and time... or time on saying ' hey, i just did all this lets go drive it and break it in and then beat the hell outa it '
get the car tuned before you do anything and have the tuner go out with you and get part throttle AFR at 14.6-15.2 and WOT (wide open throttle) around 12.9-13.0

supposing i do let a shop tune it for me, should i go there open header, full exhaust (headers, ypipe, through flowmaster or equivalent) or full exhaust open cutout to get best tune? and if i plan on going to a ls6 intake up the road, would that negatively affect the tune with the junk ls1 intake i have now?

It seems to me that people that tuned their car before driving it will tell you that you have to tune it first because it is their way or the highway.
You should be fine cruisin around a little bit. WOT may be a bit dangerous depending on many factors. So general consensus is to get is tuned as soon as you possibly can.
