Default Any confirmation of successful case learn?

I've searched on here and the hptuners forum, and have not found a definite answer.

I know the process to do the case learn.

When I start, the dialog box says "ready".
And when I finish, the box reverts to "ready".
But at no time did it say "finished", "successful", "ok", or any other variant of success.

The first time I tried it, the P/N rev limiter was set too high, and it kind of freaked out the pcm. I got "vehicle is moving" and "rpms too high" error messages. So I lowered the P/N rev limiter and quit getting those messages.

But it just goes back to "ready" which makes me think it didn't work.
(and I'm still getting a CKP code too)

This is after swapping all my parts over to a fresh forged shortblock.

I don't want to get a new crank sensor to throw at the problem if I just haven't done the case learn exactly right yet.

Is the lack of an error message the only confirmation I'll get?

Surely somebody on here knows the answer to this one and it's not secret squirrel stuff...

a.) you get something like "ok" or "done"
or
b.) you just get sent back to "ready" and no error messages

Only time I tried it was back with EFILive v6 and it
never would go, on account of an EVAP system code
(that would not show up in EFILive or Predator scans
or SES, but the TechII dug out).

Crank learn should go by itself and not need forcing,
if you have Crank Position Not Learned code then you
may have a background problem like I did. The Not
Learned code is kind of backwards from what you'd
think, not a crank position problem but a problem
that prevents the learn from going. CKP high/low
signal errors are another matter, more likely electrical
/ sensor damage there.

What is the code, if it's a range/performance code, a CASE learn should help. If it's a low/high signal, it's more likely to be damaged wires somewhere or a damaged sensor as Jimmy said. I got a range/performance code when my reluctor wheel was installed backwards. I think it will also come up if there is too much runout in the wheel or if the sensor is too far away from the wheel.

Good question... I forgot the code number. It should still be in the pcm (at home).

I remember looking it up both times I got it, and the description said something about a problem detected "for less than one second". The first time I got it, I hadn't done a learn yet. The first time is what prompted me to do the learn.

I tried searching for this fragment of a code description, but this board's search and the hptuner's search discard the terms "less", "than", "one", and "second" so that didn't help me back into it... I'll doublecheck tonight and post it up.

Did find another post that suggested you may have to try the case learn up to 3 times to get it to "take".

It's beginning to sound like there is no confirmation message at the end of the procedure. Just the lack of error messages at that moment, and the lack of a code being set later.

Less than one second sounds like a range/performance code. P0336 I believe is the number. I remember because it haunted me for a few days. A CASE learn may or may not fix this. In my case, the PCM had no ******* idea what was going on because the reluctor wheel was on backwards, so it gave me that code.

When I did it.....the car sounded like it shut off. Keep moving the RPM's up and somewhere around 5,000 (I think) the car acts like you shut off the gas and drops back down in RPM's. I never paid attention to what the screen said after that.

The CKP relearn will not run if you you are getting several different codes; including either of the Crank Sensor codes. So that is one problem. Neither EFIlive or HPtuners offer a confirmation or "process complete" message. Once you follow the procedure exactly as described, you must turn the ignition off for 15 seconds for the process to take. Assuming you followed the procedure exactly with the 4 predefined parameters in the correct range or value, it should work.

P0335 - The PCM will set this code if no crank signal is received for less than 3 seconds.
P0336 - Will set if the PCM receives no crank signal less than 1 second.

I would check the voltage to the PCM side connector with the Ignition ON.

EFI Live does not have a "test Complete message" per say but, if you read the description and follow the directions it is fairly obvious when it is sucessful.

For me using HPTuners it shut off at 4000 rpm. I've done it twice and both times it shut off there. I did it due to too many random misfires at idle; it solved it for me.

Make sure you follow the directions in the HPT Help file EXACTLY, including turning the key off for 30 sec or whatever amount of time it is. HPT's crank position relearn worked for me, I did it on my car when I was throwing that code after swapping PCMs a few times.

When it runs the test successfully it doesn't show you any "OK" or "done" dialog - if it didn't error out during the test it probably worked and you just need to shut the key off to store the data to the PCM.

Hope that helps...

That's good to know. I'll give it one more shot and see if the code stays away. I have been turning it off. The code doesn't come back until a few minutes later.

Getting the p/n rev limiter brought down helped a lot...

Now that all the holiday commotion is over, I can get back to it.
