Default Making Stock Temp Gauge Work

I have been P.O.'d at the non functioning temp gauge in my 02 Camaro SS for four years now, but I don't want to "mess up" the interior with an aftermarket gauge. I would like to get some feedback on the feasibility of bypassing the PCM and routing the analog signal from the gauge temp sensor directly to the cluster or am I tilting at windmills?

You, as well as everyone with a '99+ are SOL, including me.

Why can't you get to the point on the I/P circuit board where the serial temp data was converted back to the analog signal drives the gauge, disconnect it and run the signal from the sender right in just like in the good old days? I'm not sure that I would hack up my cluster to try this, but I would think about finding a used one and try it unless I am missing something fundamental.

From what I recall, it is convertered in the cluster to only register a cold, warm or hot condition range, not a specific temp. If you are an electronics guru, with time and money, you may want to undertake this task. I am not, so I wont.

Thanks for the info - it has been awhile since I designed hardware and while I'm certainly not a guru, this little project sounds like something that would be fun (depending on what the circuit board looks like inside the cluster) and others might like too. I am just surprised that nobody has tried it which is why I posted.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/wiring-stereo-electronics/520213-fixed-stock-coolant-temp-gauge-today.html old thread, not sure if it works or not, but something to look into.

Thanks Slow - this is exactly what I was looking for. Of course I didn't think to check the stereo / electronics forum as I "knew" that this issue was PCM related. Again many thanks for saving me the trouble of reinventing the wheel.

I dont know about you guys but mine will be right before the half line at my usual 190*, it will be right over the half mark by 210* I can tell the difference in temps. I think the temp gauge is just buffered to slow down the changes in temp much like some gas gauges will take 5 minutes after you fill the tank (my wrx is like this).
