Default Programmer purchase advice

I've heard good and bad stories about these programmer devices. Some say they increase HP/TQ but don't say by how much? Others state as much as 30 Hp can be gained from their devices, but don't say if that is on a stock motor or if that was acheived with other modifications to the engine.

Whats the truth?

I've been considering purchasing one of the following:

Diablo programmer
Crane programmer
Superchips Flash Pac

I'd appreciate some advice on these things or other such devices? Are they worth it?

Hmmm, I guess no one has an opinion on this?

Just trying to figure out if these devices are worth it or not? all cost in the $200-$500 range.

What's a realistic HP/TQ gain with one of these on a completely stock motor?
Some companies claim 37HP/36TQ while others state 23HP/25TQ...

Dont look soley at the power gains that are claimed. Tools like the Predator offer alot of other features in addition to more powerful tunes, like the ability to fine tune the combo through the handheld. You can also view live data to see what effect you have by making changes to the tune.

When you did your Pred performance tune (or anyone else for that matter) does it cancel the torque management from the automatics like the superchips?

The Predator does offer the ability to disable TM in the 99-02 Fbody and vette tunes.

The difference in tuners is otions really. I have owned a diablo tuner and didn't like it. I have got my money back for it since and have ordered HPTuners. It depends on you what you want to be able to do. If your car is going to stay stock or minor mods go with the diablo. I made a mistake in thinking I will keep my car somewhat stock I had surpassed what I could do with the diablo in less than 2 months. Tuning systems like HPTuners will give you the option of changing basically anything you want. The crane programmer is good from what I have read and will give you about the same adjustability as the diablo never really paid attention to what the superchips flash pac does so I cant help you there. If you ever want to be able to fine tune it yourself go with HPTuners or EFILive, if you want a decent general ability to tune....that comes with a "canned tune" already than I am sure diablo and crane will work fine.

you can change alot in the performance tune and the stock tune. torque management is no prob in either.also you can set trans pressures, shift points and shift timing for less time in between shifts.
