In general I think the handhelds try to limit you to
safe settings (though they might not succeed all
the time). It seems to me more trouble comes from
inadequate line pressure (fried frictions) than too
high.

Every time you reflash you run some small risk of
hanging the PCM, not damage per se but once
confused it can take a dealer reflash etc. to get
back to right. Talking communications glitches, not
an actual hard damage but a mis-write of the
memory; the memory itself should be plenty durable.

There ought to be a point where you get past the
need to mess with it so often, hopefully.

I had a 4L60e rebuilt by Art Carr back in 1997. I was also using the firmest shift settings in the Hypertech. I was going through 3/4 clutch packs every 1-2 months. Art wanted to drill a hole in the tranny housing and install some sort of line pressure attachment, but I couldn't find a local shop who would warranty the case.

I'm sure there are better ways to work around the line pressure issue since then but I wouldn't know because I switched to a M6.

If you have a shift-kit or built tranny the pressure settings need to be left stock. Increased pressures are provided through the build, turning it up in the ECM can bring it to levels that cause damage relatively easily. If the tranny is built, take out TM, set shift points and lockup points to suit and keep times and pressures stock.

well see thats the thing, its stock....i only mess with it to kick the tranny in because that shifting helps out alot for racing, if i had more horse i wouldnt bother but it doesnt have the ***** to back up the lag in shifts.

shift-lag is TM pulling spark timing.

Go vacum modulated and let the engine demand the amount of line pressure. No need to adjust anything in the PCM less shfit points ect..

Unless you can post or tell the settings, I don't know how you can get an honest response to that.
