Default fuel economy in a low CR motor

was playing with the AFR today in my OL tune... the car started to pop and bang if it hit around 15.0afr at less than 2800rpms and at very light load.... i've seen that other people can do this but i'm gonna guess that its because they have a higher compression than me... is this so?

i'd like to be able to have it cruise 55mph at around 14.5 AFR... but it is a 8.0 CR motor... i just know this thing gulps the gas down fast... right now the car can cruise very easily at high 12's but id like to go leaner... lmk what you think...

(yes repost but i think i messed up the heading)

i think that a/f works on LIGHT load like steady cruise on the highway....thats how mine has reacted at least.

under a standard maf tune...4l80e with 3.23 gear, i got 21mpg on the highway on long trips...i would jack the timing up in the cruise only area to 50 degrees!! On my 408 with 3.55 gear i could only get 18mpg on the highway.

if you have a wide quench area that will compound the detonation probability
