Default Help with LS1 Edit Hanging when reading PCM

I've been using LS1 edit for the past few years, and recently had my car retuned. The tuner used HP Tuners and says he did not lock the PCM.

I'm now trying to read the PCM since the tune. Ls1 edit seems to be reading the PCM, but it is VERY SLOW. About 1% takes about 2 minutes.

I have been able to read & clear trouble codes since the tune.

Its reading the PCM now, 25 mins at about 12%. At this rate it'll be hours before it done simply reading the PCM.

Whats wrong?

I'm afraid to shut the reading down, I dont want to lose the PCM or tune.
I'd call carputing, but they dont list a phone number.

Any quick answers would be great! Thanks

In their documents they say that troubles while reading can't damage the PCM.
It takes me about 10 - 12 min to read the program...

Yes, but the software before reading the PCM, states not to interupt.

The download did finally finish, 2 1/2 hours.

I dont dare write to the PCM until I know what the problem is.

Damn dude. You are lucky that you did not kill the vcm voltage.. Perhaps its a setting on your computer. What does it use for a cable? USB? Serial? Try to read from another car using the same cable and computer.. see if it takes that long. Bring beer, a magazine, and maybe a mini-tv.. heh. 2.5 hours thats nuts. You probably set your baud rate too low.. assuming its serial

The LS1-Edit cable & interface are Serial, but I use a USB adapter to connect it to the laptop.

I've been using this same setup for years, without having ls1-edit take this long. I was even able to flash my PCM normally with ls1-edit 1 day before the car went in for its dyno tune, at which point HP tuners was used.

Even though it took 2 1/2 hours, the ls1 file looks valid.

So I dont know, I might try and do a SAFE write to the PCM with edit to see if that works.

I'v e written carputing, waiting back for a reponse.

...the punishment for letting other people mess with your car?
Sorry for the bad joke, but I prefer damage my own stuff instead pay someone to do that.

Have you spoke to the tuner? Does he have your old program? Can he reload it?
Is it possible to find out what he changed, go back to your own program and make the changes there? I mean: it would be good (in my opinion) that YOU manage the program and not the tuner.

The tuner has no problem with his customers going ahead and modify thier own tune after his tune. Thats why he does not lock the PCM with HP Tuners.

I have spoken with the tuner about this, he hasnt used ls1-edit in quite some time, but he doesnt know why there would be a problem with my interface reading so slow.

Carputing has gotten back to me, I need to try and re-read my PCM with the logging turned on, and e-mail that log to them.

Carptuing also assured me, its okay to interupt the read process. I'll just need to disconnect the battery before trying to start the car. Good to know!

no matter what people say about LS1Edit and Carputing I like this tool and those guys.
They helped me creating a custom program for my tranny swap.
So now I can switch back and forth A4 to M6 keeping the same VIN and calibretion number

for free!

Yes, I agree. LS1-Edit & carputing is stilll a decent tuning package.

I just sent my logfile off to carputing last night, we'll see what they come up with as for this slow reading of the PCM problem is.

Carputing thought it was my USB adaptr, so I've setup a PC with a real serial port in the garage and loaded it up.

All is running fine with it now.

Cool!
It's not the 1st time that a USB adapter messes with Edit. I use a serial port.

So yeah, this older desktop (using a real serial port) hs been flashing my PCM very nicely over the past few days.

BTW, carputing has USB versions of thier interface now. They offered to upgrade my serial cable version to USB for $125, but they dont advertise it on thier web-site yet.

Since I went ahead and setup this dedicated PC, windows load, etc to the car, in the garage, I'll keep my current setup for now.
