Default Highest timing at idle.

I have a very slight miss at idle and can't get rid of it. Off idle like 900rpm (I idle at 800) its gone, only at idle do I hear it. I know I need to advance timing at idle to increase the pressure in the cylinder to help rid of it, but how far can I go and still be safe? Right now im sitting at 21.5 at idle. What are ya'll sitting at during idle?

You can increase your idle timing as far as you need to but keep in mind, your timing overspeed/underspeed control will have less affect on your engine if your base timing is in the upper 20s or above.

If you're running a stock internals motor, then I'd use the stock tables. Chances are (in that scenario) it's a mechanical issue - not a tuning issue. If you're running a cam, I've found that I need to take 4~6* of timing out in areas under 1600 rpm. If you're cammed, I could send you my timing table for a reference.

That's strange. I find my car idles smoother and revs faster with more advance - 26* or more.

Idle, yes - 26 or more is a good number for cam'd M6 cars. Just off idle when you're letting the clutch out - not necessarily. I'm talking about removing timing from the less than ~1600 rpm, but greater than .28 grams/cylinder region of the high octane table for off idle issues. That's where I have typically seen a problem in the tune on a cam'd car.

OK, I got you! Yes, I've had problems with mine at that region with a slight burble but I haven't tried retarding the spark. I'll have a look at that next time I'm plugged into the Matrix!
