Chris most of the other gm products I have messed with that had this problem had to install new key assembly to correct it. The contacts in the cylinder get worn and do not get a good connection most of the time it starts out as a random not start condition before going out completely.

With a flashing security light I thought turning off VATS would work too???? I'd try reading the resistor value on the key, get one from radio shack and place it in the connector under the dash.

I had the same problem happen to me the 2nd day I owned my car! I thought, "great....here we go...."
Well anyways, I measured the resistance in the chips in my key, purchaced the resisters needed from radioshack. I planned on soldering them in to the vats wire, a common fix for the vats. I snipped both of the vats wires in the steering column.
Before actually soldering the resisters in, I wanted to turn the key just in case the security light flashed in a different way. Instead the car actually started! It's started fine for the last year and a half, the only thing is that my security light is constantly on while driving. I am not saying it will work for you, or anyone else, but I figured I'd share my experiance.

Ok, let me make sure I did this right. I got an ohm meter and I set it to 20k and I touched both sides of the chip on the key and I come up with 9.47? Should this be 9470ohms?

I put the ohm meter on 20k and I get a 9.47 on the ohmmeter is that 947ohms or 9470ohms? Or am I not reading the ohmmeter right? I have no freaking idea what I'm doing with this stuff! Help me out here.

YES, I looked at! I was just trying to make sure I was doing this right. I measured the key at 9.47 ohms so I figured if I put 2 4.7 ohm resisters together (4.7ohmsx2=9.4ohms) that should work? Thank you for your help
