Default HP Tuner.

I just purchased HP tuners and I was wondering have much power is left on the table with the stock GM tune on a car the only has a cat back and a lid?

What advice would you give to someone just starting out tuning their car.

I have a H/C set up and several bolt ons but I want to understand the how to tune for them before I install them.

Do a lot of reading in the stickies here, and over at the hptuners forum. buy a wideband. it's not all that easy to learn how to tune, I'm still trying to get a feel for it. If you know somebody locally that is an experienced tuner that will really help out the learning curve.

^^ Well said, read read read. There really isn't much to be gained in stock form tuning, generally, you can remove some TM and play with timing a little, but generally the tune is pretty close in stock form. The few cars i've played with that had a lid and catback really didn't need much tuning.

they're all pig rich at WOT when dead stock.
thats one of the reasons we gain so much with longtubes/lid/etc.... it leans it out some.

best thing you can do is get a wideband, and wire it in so HPtuners can see it.

really, just play aroudn with it a bit... its something you get the hang of quicker by doing then just reading.
