Bad engine computer? What do you think?

Bad engine computer? What do you think? Well my buddy has a 87 Iroc 305TPI A4. One day he was driving down the highway and the car shut off. I took a look at it, I thought it might be the fuel pump but wasn't sure. I plugged my Snap-On scanner and and noticed there isn't a check engine light on when you turn the key to the ON position. Well a little farther in the scanner doesn't communicate with the ECM. So I'm thinking ECM, what do you guys think?

There is two 30 amp fuses that have pcm and pcm/fp both were good. I'm thinking either bad ground of bad batt. to the pcm or the pcm itself. I'll see if I have a book on 3rd Gen.
