There are low octane and high octane tables in the PCM - if you run the 87 it should/would cause some knock and then I believe the PCM would switch to using the low octane tables..... if you are running the 87 to save a few bucks it will end up costing you more in the long run

I would equate tuning a peformance vehicle on 87 gas tantamount to turning your underwear inside out before you go out on a hot date after a long day of working outside. You could do it but, I don't think your'e going to end up getting what you really want.

I understand that and have had to do it myself couple times when at home and barely anything in the tank - used gas from our 300 gallon tank for the tractor, live in the boonies and figure its better than runnin it dry and frying the fuel pump........ just postin a caution

You can run it no problem for light cruising, but do not go WOT. I realized the low octane table will retard the spark, but, it will get stuck there for a while even after you fill up with the good stuff. I guess if you get in that situation, fill it up enough to get to a real gas station and then put in the 91.

You will get worse fuel mileage with 87 as well.

Octane boosters are not "octane" they're some other kind of knock retardant, doesn't really work the same IMO.
