Default Newbie Tuning Questions.. a/f ratio? others..

Just picked up my '98 Camaro and my friend has the HP tuning software

I'll be running 93 octane (occasionally 89) and I believe the stock WOT a/f ratio is 11.8:1... we set mine to 12.3 but I've seen on other threads people go with 12.8 or even 13
The car will be a street car.. probably going to leave it stock for a while with just a lid and a cat back.. should i keep it at 12.3 or can i go to 12.7-12.9?

Also is there any point in shutting the EGR off?

And are there any tricks to improve economy?

The egr has to do with emisson. most ppl delete egr and air when putting on headers with no emission so you dont throw a code SES

I'd love to delete my egr, except NY State inspection interfaces with the PCM as part of the inspection, and flunks you if your EGR doesn't respond.. ask me how i know..

You can tune the codes out and then it would pass.

That's what we did, the inspection machine actually goes looking for them.. it read NOT READY for the EGR, HEATED O2 (shut off for EGR), and the AIR pump which was off too

Deleting EGR on a stock vehicle will typically REDUCE fuel economy. There is no benefit to eliminating it unless your new exhaust doesn't have the necessary fittings. EGR is not active at WOT, so there's no power to be had by getting rid of it.

You can set the AFR to whatever you want, but until you tune the VE and MAF it's not gonna hit what you tell it to.

without a wideband you can only guess so well. I wouldn't lean it out to much, or do much to the afr at all untill you are able to hook up a wideband to it and get some accurate afr data.
