Default VATS questions

VATS is acting up on my buddies car. I told him I could turn it off with HPT. Just want to make sure if the security light is currently on, I can still read/write to the PCM? Will the security light go off if I disable VATS?

Nope. Take out bulb or get some tape. Light will come on even if disabled.

I programmed the car, disabled VATS, and the car still wont start. Security light still flashing. Car has plenty of battery, fuel pump primes, but when you turn the key from ON to START the cluster lights go off and the gages zero out and nothing happens. Car is a 2000 Formula M6.

HPT controls the Vats in the pcm but not in the BCM. Search Vats bypass or something to that effect and you should find some good information.

Actually I read a post on her from a guy whos car lost VATS and the starter at the same time. Checked the purple starter signal wire and it switched to +12 when the key went to START. Rolled the car down the driveway and popped the clutch, fired right up.

So we pulled the starter, its good. So I guess whats happening is with the VATS turned off, the PCM will fire if we roll start it, but the BCM will not activate the starter? Going to try the bypass now.
